By BBN Staff: The Government of Belize (GoB) is on track to defy yet another court-ordered judgment.
In October the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ)ordered GoB to refund Cruise Solution and Discovery Expedition after it learned that these companies owned by David Gegg were paying General Sales Tax (GST)for services that were zero-rated.
These companies had paid close to half a million in taxes.
GoB’s Financial Secretary, Joseph Waight, confirmed to Amandala that the administration of Prime Minister Dean Barrow would not be paying a penny toward the judgment.
That is because last month the Prime Minister amended the tax laws thereby giving it retroactive effect.
As GoB attempts to play hard, information to BBN is that litigation will continue on this matter.
We note that this is not the first time that GoB has failed to honor a court ruling.
Just recently GoB refused to pay Belize Bank a judgment on the Universal Health Services saga which has since ballooned to$100 million with interests.
