Social Security Board announces new changes for social security cards

y BBN Staff:The Belize Social Security Board (SSB) is making significant changes to the social security card processes in Belize.

Beginning with the rule that lost and misplaced social security cards previously had to be reported to the police and then applied for at SSB, the board announced last week that effective immediately, there is no longer a police report requirement to apply for a new card.

“ Customers no longer need to present a police report when applying to replace a valid lost or stolen Social Security registration card,” the SSB said.

However, card replacement forms are now a requirement for lost, stolen and defaced cards. 

The fee is $26 for all card replacements inclusive of expired cards. These changes come into effect on January 1, 2019.

The other big news out of SSB is that social security cards issued to persons from the age of 14 years and older from January 1, 2019, and beyond will have no expiration date.

It is important to note though that cards issued before January 1, 2019, will expire on the date printed on the card.

The SSB says that children under 14 years old will be issued a social security card that will expire before their 14^th birthday.
