Minister of Transport and National Emergency Management (with responsibility for the National Fire Service), Edmond Castro, San Pedro Mayor Daniel “Danny” Guerrero and Acting Fire Chief, Benisford Matura were present at the handing over.
Chief Executive Officer of BTL, Rochus Schreiber remarked, “We are part of the community of San Pedro, and the fact that we are in a position to help is something that we can appreciate, cognizant of the responsibility that comes with this privilege.”
Nestor Vasquez, Chairman of Digicell, expressed, “I was born here in San Pedro, and it gives me great pleasure and satisfaction that I can participate along with the Mayor and Area Representative (both San Pedranos) with the development that the present government brings to the country.”
Castro, on behalf of the National Fire Service, conveyed appreciation for the donation, stating, “Anything is better than what we had in the past. The trucks that we have are very old; some are from 1946 and 1950’s. So, we will be able to retire those slowly, as soon as we could get new updated pieces of equipment that could help us.”
Mayor Daniel “Danny” Guerrero also expressed his gratitude for the donation, “We are cognizant that every time there is a fire, hundreds of thousands of dollars go up in smoke. We cannot continue to afford that to happen. We all need to do our share in addressing these emergencies.”
San Pedro Fire Chief, Gladstone Bucknor received the keys to the brand new truck.
The Firetruck is a Dennis Sabre 2003 Model, with 600 Gallons Capacity, valued at just under 100 thousand dollars.
