By BBN Staff:Former President of the Coordinating Committee of Agricultural, Commercial, Industrial, and Financial (CACIF) Associations in Guatemala, Carlos Amador yesterday met with a delegation of journalists from Belize.

The associations represent Guatemala’s business sector who were actively engaged in promoting a ‘Yes’ vote for Guatemala’s national referendum on taking the territorial claim to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

According to Amador, the overwhelming support of Guatemalans for the ‘Yes’ vote was due to the fact that Guatemalans want ‘certainty’ and for the court to clearly define the borders of the two nations.

“The main interest is always certainty, rule of law. The moment that you have the defined borders, well, people have more certainty,” Amador stated.

Furthermore, Amador shared with us that solving Guatemala’s long-standing claim on Belize’s territory will provide for more trade opportunities and partnerships between the two countries.
