Westrac invests in solar energy at Spanish Lookout main branch

Posted: Sunday, December 23, 2018. 9:10 am CST.

y BBN Staff:Westrac recently undertook a large-scale initiative to invest in renewable energy and install solar panels at its main branch in Spanish Lookout in an effort to leave a smaller footprint on the environment while supplying a steady renewable source of energy.

According to Julian Thiessen, from Westrac’s Marketing Department, “We are now looking to get over half our power from the sun.” He added that the since installing the solar panels, the system has been doing great and said Westrac is excited to have a positive environmental impact on Belize.

Thiessen also said the new solar panel system covers the company’s peak power usage at 66 kilowatts. The company expects to have its investment covered within five years and feel it was more than worth the cost, which is below $4 per kilowatt, according to Thiessen.

He said the company believes it was a savvy investment and believes that other companies would do well to consider solar energy as a viable alternative. The panels were installed by Solar Energy Solutions Belize Ltd.
