Belize: 143 murdered for 2018

By BBN Staff: There have been 143 Belizeans murdered in 2018.

On January 1st the first victim was reputed Victoria Street gang boss, Leon Garcia.

Yesterday the latest victim was Daniel Hughes Sr.

With four days remaining, the murder rate has already surpassed the 142 in 2017.

However, it is now only 2 murders away from the 145 murder record set in 2012.

Government officials have gone on record to claim that crime is on a decrease.

Yet, the murder rate suggests otherwise.

In a year when the Government of Belize passed several anti-gang legislations, implemented a state of public emergency and created more police units it still has been unable to reduce the bloodshed which shows a gradual increase over the last five years.
