According to Assistant Superintendent of Police, Alejandro Cowo, sometime around 4 p.m., the deceased was driving on Tibruce Street in Belize City.
That was when two armed assailants emerged and opened fire.
He was shot in his face and arm.
According to Cowo, a loaded pistol was recovered near the body of the deceased.
However, he could not confirm who the weapon belonged to.
Cowo suggested that forensics would have to help to make that determination.
When asked what was the motive for this shooting, Cowo said it was the result of an ongoing dispute between two families in the Lake Independence constituency.
According to him, this is the fifth life lost in this dispute.
Cowo told the press that retaliation is expected and so police presence has been increased.
No one has since been detained.
