By BBN Staff: Belize, along with several other territories, has been added to the Netherlands’ official list of tax evasion jurisdictions by the Dutch Ministry of Finance.
Belize was added along with British dependencies including the Isle of Man and the islands of Guernsey and Jersey. According to the Dutch Finance Ministry, Belize is now among the 21 low tax jurisdictions on its list which levies a tax on corporate profits of 9% or less.
“By drawing up our own, tough blacklist, we are showing again that we are serious in our battle against tax evasion,” junior tax minister, Menno Snel, said in a statement. “And this is just one of the measures we are taking.”
The European Union’s official blacklist of tax evasion offenders includes five countries, American Samoa, Guam, Samoa, Trinidad and Tobago and the US Virgin Islands.
The Netherlands also plans to introduce a tax on royalties and a crackdown of the shell company industry.
