By BBN Staff: The People’s United Party (PUP) has released a statement entitled, “Barrow’s Smoke and Mirror Act.”

The statement chastises the administration of Prime Minister Dean Barrow for increasing electricity rates.

According to the release, “On one hand, BEL asked for a raise in electricity rates, its second in six months.”

“On the other hand, the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) decided that BEL asked for too little and so they ‘gifted’ them with more than what they asked for,” the statement continued.

The statement indicated that the government, “then stepped in and asked the PUC to please revisit its ‘gift’ to BEL. Then we hear that GOB further asked the PUC to hold back any increase at all for the next six months.”
According to the statement, the Prime Minister, who is the head of Government, controls both BEL and the PUC.

“It is widely known, both in the political and government circles, that the Chairman of the PUC John Avery, never makes a move without first getting the nod from the Prime Minister,” the statement asserted.

The PUP accuses the government of trying to play hero while making the PUC the villain.

The statement concluded by asking Prime Minister Dean Barrow, “to abandon this stupidity immediately”.
