By BBN Staff: On January 1, 2019, authorities were called to the Belize River in an area of Blackman Eddy, Cayo where the body of a man was found.
Police retreived the body and an on site post mortem examination concluded that the person had been murdered by manual strangulation some days before.
Authorities suspect that the man can be a Guatemalan national.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams yesterday told the media that the body was already beginning to decompose which suggests that he was in the river for at least 3 days.
“We have no missing person in Belize that matches that description, so that could be a possibility. Unfortunately, it drifted into our area and it is not for us,” Williams said.
The man was dressed in long black pants, a red and black checkered button shirt, and black tennis shoes.
He had a star tattoo on his stomach, and the names ‘Martinez and Irma’ and the date 1995 tattooed on him.
The body remains unidentified.
