By BBN Staff: Some concerned residents of Chan Pine Ridge in Orange Walk contacted us today to share their frustrations with the pollution reportedly being caused by the Belize Sugar Industries(BSI)/ASR Group in Orange Walk District.

According to the residents, the black ashes emanating from the factory is a health hazard and some villagers have gotten ill as a result.

“Our concerns have been voiced out for the past few years and have reached deaf ears. I am here once more pleading for this issue to be addressed…. I mean it’s just so frustrating to hear my fellow villagers complaining and seeing them getting ill because of this pollution and these ashes that are falling from the sky coming directly from the chimney of BSI,” a resident told BBN.

The residents are pleading to the Department of the Environment to look into the matter.
