By BBN Staff: Edward Vincent Martinez, half-brother to Minister Anthony “Boots” Martinez, today called a press briefing to comment publicly on the drug trade. This press briefing is held days after the United States media reported that the Mexican cartel, run by El Chapo, had conducted business transactions in Belize. The accusations Martinez made also comes on the heels of a record number of drug plane landings and sightings that has occurred in Belize.

In the briefing, Martinez told the press that several top brass of the Belize Police Department and high ranking politicians were actively involved in the drug plane landings in association with the drug cartels.

Martinez went as far as to call several names, both of senior Police Officers and Politicians, who he claims he has evidence of their involvement.

It is no secret that the Police is involved as last year several police men were charged after having been found in at least two areas where suspected drug planes had landed. However, the public calling of names of high ranking Police Officers and Politicians who are purportedly involved with the cartels is a bold move made by Martinez.

Edward Martinez made news in September 2018 when he posted to social media pictures of a drug plane as well as coordinates as to where a purported drug plane would be landing.

The Belize Police Department denied the allegations, claiming that the photographs of the coordinates are from a notebook found in the charred remains of an abandoned plane in northern Belize, and that the insinuation that the Police knew these coordinates beforehand is false.

We note that immediately after the press conference Martinez received purported death threats via text messages.

In earlier communications, Edward Martinez claimed that he does not have a cordial relationship with his brother, Anthony ‘Boots’ Martinez.
