BBN Staff: Prime Minister Dean Barrow held a press conference today to inform Belizeans of a joint declaration signed by 5 former Foreign Affairs Ministers of Belize including those from PUP and UDP administrations to take Guatemala’s longstanding claim on the country’s territory to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for a final settlement.

It is interesting to note that the current Foreign Affairs Minister, Wilfred Elrington was not at the podium and neither did he participated in the signing of the declaration.

Also, Eamon Courtney, a former PUP Minister of Foreign Affairs was not at the event and neither did he sign or support the declaration.

The former Foreign Affairs Ministers that signed the declaration were Assad Shoman, Godfrey Smith, Lisa Shoman, Said Musa, and Dean Barrow.

Lisa Shoman read the declaration pointing out the reasons why Belizeans should vote ‘Yes’ to taking the claim to the ICJ for a final solution.
