Dr. Errol Elrington remains wanted fugitive in United States

Posted: Saturday, January 19, 2019. 8:04 am CST.

BBN Staff: The Elrington Family in Belize has almost been synonymous with political and legal excellence.

Despite the family’s prominence, allegations against one family member have almost wrinkled the fabric of the many achievements of this Belizean family.

That family member is Dr. Errol Elrington.

He is a brother to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wilfred “Sedi” Elrington.

He is an uncle to former Belize City Councilwoman and lawyer, Alifa Elrington.

He is also an uncle to aspiring politician and lawyer, Orson Elrington.

In the United States of America, he is nothing more than a fugitive on the run.

He is featured on the top-10 wanted list by the United States Office of the Inspector General (OIG).

That is because of allegations of healthcare fraud.

The OIG informs that on October 7, 2013, an arrest warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of racketeering, Medicaid fraud, and healthcare fraud.

However, a day after being interviewed by Federal and State agents, he fled the country.

It is believed that he is in Belize.

Elrington reportedly ran a facility in Michigan known as Elrington Medical Center PLLC (EMC), although he worked at another medical facility.

“Investigators believe that Elrington falsely billed Medicare and Medicaid more than $400,000 for services that he never performed, and he employed an unlicensed physician who engaged in criminal sexual misconduct,” revealed the OIG.

“The unlicensed physician treated several patients and conducted multiple pelvic exams on a female patient, which resulted in charges of first degree criminal sexual conduct, racketeering, Medicaid fraud, health care fraud, and health profession unauthorized practice. The unlicensed physician is being held prior to trial,” the OIG added.

The OIG claimed that, “Elrington allegedly employed an unlicensed physician to treat patients at EMC when he was not there, then billed Medicare and Medicaid as if he performed the services. Though he was the owner of EMC, Elrington spent most of his time employed as the chief medical officer at another medical facility that was unaffiliated with EMC.”

Sources close to BBN have claimed to see Elrington in Kingspark, Belize and Sarteneja, Corozal.

However, these claims have been unconfirmed.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Elrington is asked to contact the United States Embassy in Belize.
