Electricity rate hike causes delay in January bills; BEL apologizes

By BBN Staff: An increase in electricity rates by Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) became effective on January 1, 2019.

In December of last year, BEL had announced that the increase went from 39.2 to 41.5 cents per kWh.

BEL has issued a notice informing customers that due to the price hike there is a delay in the delivery of printed bills in January.

Customers are advised that to check their account balance they can send a text to 235 with “Balance (your account number)”.

BEL also said that it would seek to lower rates by the end of 2019.
