1 Guatemalan and 5 Belizeans arrested for entering illegally in the Bladen Nature Reserve

Posted: Wednesday, January 30, 2019. 10:33 am CST.

BBN Staff: Enforcement rangers of Ya’axché Conservation Trust conducted two separate arrests in Bladen Nature Reserve in southern Belize.

On Saturday, January 26, 2019, 4 residents of Golden Stream Village including two minors were arrested.

Subsequently, on January 28, 2019, 3 residents of Bladen, including a Guatemalan national, and one resident of Tambran Village were arrested.

Yesterday, the men arrested on January 28, 2019, were arraigned in the Punta Gorda Town Magistrate’s Court and were read charges of illegal entry into a Nature Reserve.

The men have until March 29, 20,19 to make payment.

Failure to comply will result in 5 months imprisonment.

In addition, there are immigration offenses the Belize Immigration Department is expected to pursue later this week.

Charges are expected to be laid on the men arrested on January 26, 2019 today at the Punta Gorda Magistrate’s Court.

Ya’axché reminds the public that the Bladen Nature Reserve is exclusive for research and education purposes stipulated under the National Protected Areas Act (number 17 of the substantive laws of Belize, Revised edition 2015).

It is a major offense to fish and hunt within a Nature Reserve.

Ya’axché commends its enforcement rangers for being vigilant and brave in protecting Belize’s terrestrial resources for current and future generations.
