Belize~ Hospital for San Pedro?

Many political promises have been made in the past…yet the hospital has not been realized.

The nearest hospital is in Belize City, which is an hour water taxi ride or 20 minute flight away.

Richard Harrison…a Belizean entrepreneur who has played key roles in spearheading various community-based projects such as Expo Belize, The Belize Scout Endowment Trust Fund, La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge, Belize Education Excellence Society and Summer of Gold…is inviting the people of Belize, especially those of San Pedro, to take action.

He believes that if a lot of people each contribute a little of the things that are needed for the hospital…that “one one full basket”…and in no time the hospital can be realized…instead of waiting around complaining and wishing.

He suggests that the first step should be formation of a non-political, non-profit Project Coordinating Committee made up of responsible respected San Pedranos, who are citizens or residents of San Pedro.

A meeting will be called inviting interested persons to receive any and all information about what has already been discussed or done…what are the challenges faced…and to chart a way forward. A Project Coordinating Committee should result from that meeting.

There will be need for architecture, engineering, construction labour and supplies, electrical and plumbing services, accounting services, solar energy system, liquid and solid waste systems, incinerator, laboratory equipment and supplies, medical equipment and supplies, hospital beds, wheel chairs, laundry equipment, computer information systems, medical records system, volunteer doctors, nurses, etc etc

A transparent system for receiving, acknowledging and accounting for donations will be put in place…so that help can be coordinated from across Belize and from friendly persons abroad.

Harrison believes that if the people lead…the government must follow…and working together, beautiful San Pedro will have demonstrated how SELF-DETERMINATION should work for and on behalf of all Belizean’s…let us put our shoulders to this wheel ?????
