Earthquake in Mexico felt in Belize, Guatemala and El Salvador

BBN Staff:An earthquake registering at 6.4 magnitude on the Richter scale occurred in Mexico a short time ago and tremors from the strong quake could be felt as far as Belize, Guatemala and El Salvador.

The epicenter of the earthquake happened in Chiapas, Mexico, an area known for high tectonic activity. Residents in Belize city and other parts of the country have reported feeling their houses shake and sway.

According to reports, residents in Guatemala City have also reported feeling strong tremors. In El Salvador, buildings were evacuated as a safety precaution after the tremors were felt.

There is no information as yet in regards to the damage caused by the earthquake or injuries and deaths that may have been caused as a result. BBN will update with more information as details are published.
