By BBN Staff: The 2nd Annual Belikin DJ Championship Competition kicked off on Friday, February 1 in Dangriga.
The competition is a part of an initiative by the Music Ambassador of Belize, H.E. Shyne Barrow’s Sustainable Development Plan for the Belize Music Industry.
The championship allows for recognition of DJs and the invaluable contributions that they make to the music world.
The event also serves as a way to discover Belize’s best DJs in every district throughout Belize.
DJs get the opportunity to win over $7,000 in final prizes as an incentive to master their craft and be a world class DJ.
“This type of investment will raise the level of greatness of our DJs and sustain growth & development in the music industry,” a statement from the Office of the Music Ambassador said.
Participating DJ’s also get a unique opportunity to network with each other.
Performing artists include Di X Band, Papa John, Sweet Pain band, Harlem Youth, and YG.
“The Office of the Music Ambassador is in a unique position to be a bridge between the DJs & Artist due to Ambassador Barrow’s investment in both. This will allow for an increase in the quality of Music and skilled professional services provided by the DJ and Artists,” the statement from the Music Ambassador further noted.
Each district winner will receive $250 and the opportunity to compete in the National finals for $3,000 as the First Place prize, $1,500 as the Second Place Prize and $1,000 as the Third Place Prize.
The championships will run through to March 8 and the finals will be held in Belize City.
