Funded by the Japanese Government under its ‘Grassroots Human Security Project’ at a cost of US $108,353, it includes the construction of a classroom building and perimeter fence around the school yard in order to improve learning for children in the Belize River area.
Harmony Preschool is the only institution that offers Early Childhood Education in the Belize River valley area, but does not have its own building and is currently occupying the Bermudian Landing Community center to accommodate classes.
Present for the ceremony yesterday was Minister of Transport and National Emergency Management, Edmond Castro; Japan’s Chargé D’affaires in Belize, Hiroyuki Kubota; General Manager for Government Primary Schools, Marvin Kellyman; Founder of Harmonyville Preschool and President of the Community Baboon Sanctuary, Jesse Young; and Principal of Harmony Preschool, Paulette Martinez.
Execution of the project is expected to take less than a year.
