If he were alive, Bob Marley would have celebrated his 74rd birthday today.
However, on May 11, 1981, he died from a skin related illness.
Despite his passing, the voice of Marley lives on in every reggae song composed.
Whether a social commentary or something for us to rock to, Marley certainly gave us his best.
This rastaman from economically depressed Trenchtown, Kingston, Jamaica took his music throughout the world in places like Europe and Africa.
This was at a time when Rastafarians were being persecuted and discriminated by authorities in Jamaica.
Yet to date he has sold the most reggae albums in history.
In addition to music, Marley was also socially involved in his community.
At one point he even brokered a peace treaty between two warring groups.
Despite this, there was an attempt on his life which he escaped with a minor gunshot injury.
Marley’s sons and daughters have similarly kept his legacy alive by pursuing musical careers.
In Belize and throughout the world music lovers pay homage to Marley.
On Sunday Belize City will host a tribute to Marley.
