Former House speaker says ‘Yes’ to the ICJ

Posted: Tuesday, February 12, 2019. 1:45 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Citizens for Defence of Sovereignty, a ‘Yes’ to the ICJ advocacy group issued a release today informing that Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emil Arguelles joined in saying ‘Yes’ to taking Guatemala’s claim on Belize’s territory to the ICJ for a final solution.

“I consider it an honour to become a member of the CDS. I wholeheartedly support submitting the Guatemalan claim for final resolution to the ICJ, because I am convinced that Belize’s case is right and just and that we are assured of victory at the ICJ. The treaty argument being our best argument is but one of several in our favour and while we only need to succeed on one of several, it is my firm belief that we will succeed in all,” Arguelles said.

Arguelles further makes a call to Belizeans to not succumb to fear and smear campaigns but rather to stand and be counted like those who were brave in 1798 who stood against greater odds and more drastic possibilities, yet prevailed.

“We must not be the generation that interrupts that patriotic tradition,” Arguelles stated.
