US Embassy hands over $128,000 worth of medical equipment to Coast Guard

Posted: Wednesday, February 13, 2019. 9:42 am CST.

BBN Staff: Yesterday, the United States Embassy handed over an ambulance and other medical equipment valued at a total of $128,000 to the Belize Coast Guard.

Chargé d’Affaires Keith Gilges represented the United States Government while Admiral John Borland represented the Coast Guard.

The Embassy said that the donation, which is aimed at enhancing the Coast Guard’s capacity to respond to emergencies along the coast and near its outposts, came through the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program.  The programme has been active in Belize for more than 35 years.

“Since the inception of the Belize Coast Guard in 2005, the United States Government has invested over $35 million BZD through this program.  The program has facilitated the purchase of a wide range of equipment, such as boats, vehicles, and communications technology,” the embassy said.

This embassy added that the ongoing collaboration between the two militaries showcases our countries’ lasting commitment to security and prosperity in the region.
