The exhibit, dedicated to Dr. Mary Lydia Waight, one of the founding members of the BAS, features 30 preserved bird displays along with information on the birds’ species and the cause of death for the specimen on display. The exhibit also highlights threats to each of the bird species and ongoing conservation efforts to protect them. The event also marks the 50th Anniversary of the BAS.
Director of the Museum, Alexis Salazar said that the exhibit was two years in the making, and started out as an exhibit at the Houses of Culture before getting its own space at the museum. He noted that the exhibit represented only a fraction of the total bird species in Belize.
The exhibit will run up until February 2020.
