PAHO Director in Belize on working visit

Posted: Monday, February 18, 2019. 9:59 am CST.

BBN Staff: Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Dr. Carissa F. Etienne, is in Belize this week to conduct a working visit with government officials.

The visit, scheduled to last from February 18-22 is geared towards PAHO’s technical cooperation with Belize and the Director’s vision for universal health and sustainable development.

During her visit, Dr. Etienne is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Dean Barrow, Minister of Health Pablo Marin, Minister of Foreign Affairs Wilfred Elrington, and other high-level government officials.

She is also expected to attend a meeting of PAHO representatives from Latin America on repositioning public health for the 21st century, which will include a presentation from Minister Marin.

“The Director is also scheduled to participate in the launch of the Belize Human Resources for Universal Health Strategic Plan 2019-2024, which aims to increase the number of health care professionals,” the Government of Belize said this morning.

GOB noted that PAHO has been working with Belize and its member countries to advance the goal of “universal health” ever since ministers of health from throughout the Americas collectively endorsed that goal in 2014.
