By BBN Staff: Members of the People’s United Party (PUP), including party leader John Briceno and members from the Southern Caucus, staged an impromptu protest in front of the Vital Statistics office on Queen street in Belize city this afternoon complaining that many residents from southern rural communities are not able to get their birth records from the office and have not been re-registered to participate in the upcoming referendum as a result.
Members of the party marched down Queen street from Independence Hall to the Vital Statistics office with signs and chanting. Briceno told the media that many residents from southern Belize have made their way to Belize city only to be told there are no records of them in the system. Briceno said it was a shame and said the party is demanding better from the Vital Stats office.
