By BBN Staff: Area Representative for Belize Rural North, Edmond Castro, said that he is confident his constituency will vote ‘Yes’ to taking the territorial dispute with Guatemala to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the upcoming referendum.
Castro said that his constituency will treat the referendum just like a general election and that he will bring out his people because Belize Rural North has among the best political machinery in the country.
“I think that the polls will show the night of the 10th that the people of Belize Rural North are sensible enough to make the decision for a yes vote,” Castro said.
He stressed that information is key to getting a ‘Yes’ vote, noting that he himself had decided to wait until he got the facts to take a position on the ICJ. He has since launched a “Yes to the ICJ” campaign within his constituency.
“We are going around my constituency providing the information to our people so that they can make an informed decision on a yes vote, so we can put this Guatemalan claim behind us once and for all,” Castro said.
