The event, geared towards showcasing Belizean art in all its forms, drew a crowd way in excess of 2,000 people. Over 30 booths were featured in this year’s event spanning from the corner of Orange and Albert Street, down to the corner of Albert and Dean Street.
Among the major highlights were the youth and adult performance stages which featured live entertainment, runway modeling and dramatic performances. Events also included the first Pok a Tok ballgame played in Belize City in front of the Supreme Court. The festival also gathered visual artists showcasing wood carvings, paint and even jewelry.
The event also featured the Side Walk Chalk Competition which was sponsored by the Referendum Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where artists were required to complete a piece in line with the theme “Your appointment with history: April 10, 2019”
Madeleine Guerra, project officer with the Referendum Unit explained that the competition formed a part of the greater awareness campaign about the referendum on taking the territorial dispute with Guatemala to the International Court of Justice.
Coordinator of the event, Karen Vernon, said that the inspiration for the festival came from the mandate of the Institute for Creative Arts
