By Aaron Humes: The Belize National Basketball Team fought tonight’s opponents, The Bahamas, all the way but fatigue told and they were defeated 86-72 tonight at the Belize Civic Center.
The game was tied at 42 at halftime, but Bahamas’s key switch of Shaquille Clare to the pivot in the second half paid dividends, as Bahamas opened a nine-point lead after three quarters, and several dagger three-pointers in the fourth closed the game for the island archipelago.
There was an injury concern for star guard Devin Daly after he crashed to the floor in the third after stepping on a Bahamas player’s foot.
The Bahamas finished second to Cuba, which pummeled bottom feeders Antigua and Barbuda, 123-70, earlier.
Final standings: 1st place Cuba, 3-0; 2nd place Bahamas, 2-1; 3rd place Belize, 1-2; 4th place Antigua and Barbuda, 0-3.
