Santa Elena residents concerned over house built on pathway

BBN Staff: A fire destroyed a house and all its contents in Santa Elena town on Saturday, February 23.

The house is located on the George Price highway near the Hawkesworth bridge in Santa Elena town.  The house is situated behind other houses in the same area.

Reports to our news desk is that the fire engine that responded to the incident had difficulty moving into the area because for years, there has been a small cement structure built blocking the pathway to the homes built at the back.

Residents tell BBN that for years, they have been clamoring that the structure be removed for fears of what could happen in case of an emergency, which is exactly what occurred on Saturday.

Yesterday, one of the neighbors began breaking down the structure that is located on the pathway but authorities were called to the area and detained the man.

The owner of the structure also lives in close proximity of where the fire occurred.

Residents are calling on the relevant authorities to look into this matter and to remove the building immediately.
