By BBN Staff: The Belize Family Life Association (BFLA), in commemoration of Women’s Month, being celebrated in March, is encouraging women to get a range of cancer screening tests through a special promotion.
Sharmane Garcia, marketing officer for BFLA, said that the promotion includes either a Pap Smear or a Comprehensive Visual Inspection of the Cervix with Acetic Acid (VIA), a pelvic exam, breast exam, and HIV testing and counseling for $60, or $50 without the HIV test.
“We’ve slashed the regular cost down by more than half during this time,” Garcia said. “The reason we promote the cervical screening is
because the only way you can know if something is wrong with the cervix in the early stages if you get it checked. By the time there’s
actually some physical sign, the condition is usually in an advanced state.”
Garcia said that the promotion is going on at all BFLA locations in the country (Dangriga,Orange Walk, San Ignacio, Belmopan, and Belize City) with no appointment needed.
