Council of Churches says “Yes” to the ICJ

Posted: Wednesday, February 27, 2019. 9:22 am CST.

BBN Staff: The Belize Council of Churches (BCC) has publicly endorsed taking the territorial dispute with Guatemala to the International Court if Justice (ICJ).

While the Council did not encourage Belizeans to vote in a particular manner, it issued a statement yesterday, calling on Belizeans to register, get the relevant facts and cast a vote on April 10.

The council stressed that it did its own analysis of the facts guided by the principles of striving for peace.

“After careful consideration, the Belize Council of Churches believes that a favorable vote on April 10, 2019 to submit the territorial dispute to the International Court of Justice is in the best interest of our beloved nation and its people,” the council said.

The BCC represents the Catholic, Anglican, and Methodist denominations.
