Authorities detain armed robbers at Northern border; recover cash and guns

By BBN Staff: This morning, authorities were conducting operations at the Northern Border when they saw a green SUV Marina arrived at the border. 

 Police observed 4 armed men exiting the vehicle; the armed men then proceeded to rob about 7 money changers. Authorities in the area immediately responded and a pursuit followed.  

During the pursuit, an exchange of gunfire resulted in 4 of the suspected robbers receiving varying degrees of gunshot injuries. The suspects fled into the nearby bushes near Mile 4 on the Phillip Goldson highway in the Corozal district.  

All suspects were later captured by Police. Police recovered an undisclosed amount of money, a 9 mm pistol, a 380 pistol and a 223 assault rifle.  

The scene was processed and the four injured suspects were taken to the Corozal hospital. 

 Three of the suspects are stable and one who is critical has been transferred to Northern regional hospital in Orange Walk town for further treatment.

None of the Police officers received injuries during the incident. However, there were damages to the windshield and the sides of the police vehicle.
