Posted: Friday, March 1, 2019. 9:12 am CST.

BBN Staff: A historic declaration was signed today by Belizean and Guatemalan Non-Governmental Organizations to reaffirm their commitments to the continuous collaborative efforts to promote the protection, conservation, and restoration of natural eco-systems, cultural heritage and sustainable development of natural areas connecting the territories of Belize and Guatemala.

The event was held at the office of the Organization of American States (OAS) at the Western Border.

The welcome address was given by OAS official, David Benavidez. Benavidez expressed gratitude to FCD and all Belizean and Guatemalan non-governmental organizations.

“ The NGO’s are obliged to make a change for a better society. The good changes, the significant changes always come from these types of organizations. You are the people that are working for the people. The OAS gates are always open for you,” Benavidez stated.

Over 20 organizations representing the indigenous community, the conservation, environmental and forestry community were present at the singing of the declaration.
