Belize Peace Movement protesting

Posted: Friday, March 1, 2019. 11:31 am CST.

BBN Staff: The Belize Peace Movement (BPM) is protesting in front of The Inspiration Center on the George Price highway.

BPM members say that they have decided to protest because the Elections and Boundaries Commission is holding a meeting at the Inspiration Center to plan an upcoming referendum regarding taking the Guatemalan territorial claim to the International Court of Justice.

Patrick Rodgers of the BPM stressed that the movement is advocating for advocates of a “No” vote be given the opportunity to be monitors for the referendum.

“We cannot accept not having a spot monitoring this process when we would bring some balance in that room,” Rodgers said.

BPM member Robert Lopez said that the organization is no longer content with holding press conferences but will now be taking to the streets and mobiling people to keep the issue at the forefront of the conversation about the referendum.
