By BBN Staff: On Thursday, BBN reported that RECONDEV demolished the home of a squatter in the Maya Mopan area of Belmopan.
Today, the squatter who has been residing at the location for over 12 years was once again faced with the threat of demolition.
That is because, overnight, she hired some contractors to erect a concrete structure where the wooden home was.
Residents gathered at the woman’s home as authorities arrived to stop the construction.
A backhoe from the Belmopan City Council was at the location to demolish the structure.
However, the residents refused to move from in front of the structure in support of the family.
The backhoe driver could not conduct the demolition due to the residents refusal to move from in front of the structure.
Several videos of the incident are circulating on social media including one showing an altercation between Belmopan activist, Rocio Quiroz and officers.
Sources confirmed to BBN that Quiroz was detained following the incident .
Videos posted to BBN’s Facebook page.
