Chamber of Commerce extends condolences on the loss of Derek Aikman

Posted: Monday, March 4, 2019. 12:54 pm CST.

BBN Staff: Today the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (BCCI) Executive Council, Secretariat and Western Union issued a statement of support and offered condolences of the family of the late Derek Aikman.

The BCCI extended its condolences to its Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Kim Aikan, Derek’s wife, and the rest of her children in their time of bereavement.

“We mourn as a family with her, and our hearts remain with her, Inga, Mischa and Anya as we continue praying for them,” the BCCI said. “We know that we cannot make the pain and hurt disappear, but we will remain beside the Aikman family throughout their ordeal.”

Aikman, who is remembered as a true Belizean patriot, died while receiving medical treatment at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital on March 2.

Among his many notable achievements, Aikman will be remembered for his adamant objection to taking the territorial dispute with Guatemala to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and as the only politician to have defeated the Rt. Hon. George Price in an election.

BBN joins with the BCCI in offering condolences to his family.
