By BBN Staff: United States Embassy of Belize’s Chargé d’Affaires, Keith Gilges and Embassy representatives last week traveled to the Chiquibul Forest reserve in Western Belize.
Gilges and the team visited Caracol Archaeological Park, the Chiquibul National Park and the Chiquibul Forest Reserve.
The team was welcomed to the Caracol Archaeological Reserve by Dr. Allan Moore, members of NICH Belize and Dr. Chase of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
The Embassy team was taken on a guided tour through Caracol.
“We appreciated the beautiful, expansive view from the top of Caana—the highest temple, which rises over 140 feet above the jungle floor,” a statement from the Embassy says.
The team met Rafael Manzanero and Derric Chan of the Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD Belize) at the Las Cuevas Research Station.
The FCD representatives highlighted their efforts, challenges, and success stories in balancing biodiversity protection while contributing to sustainable development and regional security and cooperation in the Chiquibul.
