La Ruta Maya River Challenge 2019 kicks off in San Ignacio

By BBN Staff: Early this morning, hundreds of spectators joined the participating teams in Cayo for the start of one of the biggest events on Belize’s calendar, the 2019 La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge, sponsored by Belikin.

The 175-mile endurance race, ranking as one of the toughest races in the world, started off at the Hawksworth Bridge in San Ignacio at 6:00 a.m. and will conclude today in Bananaa Bank. Day two of the race will run from the Banana Bank Lodge to Double Head Cabbage. Day three of the race goes from Double Head Cabbage to Burrell Boom, and the final leg of the Race Starts in Burrell Boom and ends off at the BelCan bridge in Belize City.

The race consists of teams in the Male, Female, Mixed, Masters, Pleasure Craft,  Family, Adventure Race, Intramural, and C2 (2 Persons) categories with over $30,000 in cash and prizes on the line.
