Driver: cyclist rode in the middle of the highway and caused his own death

BBN Staff: Orange Walk police have served Shawn Dorch with a notice of intended prosecution.

This comes after Dorch was driving an SUV which knocked down and claimed the life of Ezekiel Lopez.

The accident happened shortly after 7 p.m. on  Saturday night between miles 51 and 52 of the Philip Goldson Highway.

Dorch claims that Lopez suddenly swerves his bicycle on to the middle of the highway and he could not prevent the collision.

Lopez was flung to the roadside with severe head injuries.

His bicycle was extensively damaged.

Police are awaiting further advice from the Director of Public Prosecution to determine if any charges will be brought against Dorch.
