Two charged for cocaine bust in Corozal; family refutes allegations

Posted: Tuesday, March 12, 2019. 4:02 pm CST.

BBN Staff: Authorities have charged two men who were busted with three parcels of cocaine last week.

Henry Menzies of Belize VIP Transfer Services and Maya Island Air employee, Melvin Cal, were both charged.

On March 5, police officers near the Corozal airstrip saw a man with a knapsack who handed the knapsack over to a taxi driver.

The officers intercepted the taxi and searched the knapsack.

In it, cops found the three parcels of cocaine amounting to over six pounds of the drug.

Menzies is a member of his family business, Belize VIP Transfer Service that picks up and delivers packages.

Relatives of Menzies said in a statement on social media that since he is a courier who is usually hired to pick up packages at the airstrip, he was only carrying out his job.

The family says that even though Menzies explained to the officers that he was delivering the package at the request of his client, he was then detained for questioning and then later falsely arrested and charged.
