The conference, held under the theme “Women rising above circumstances, inspiring and innovating change,” is geared towards discussing pertinent issues affecting women including women culturally conscious leadership, misnomers about women at the top, and emotional intelligence. A panel of distinguished women also gave advice to the officers who form the next generation of women seeking leadership.
The panel included Dr. Shermaine Saunders, Dr. Carla Barnett, Laura Tucker-Longsworth, Dr. Candice Pitts, and Julian Ellis Bradley.
Desiree Magdaleno, Assistant Commissioner of Police, said that the theme was chosen to emphasize what the department hopes the participants will take away from the seminar.
“We are hoping the officers will leave feeling energized, inspired, and motivated so that we are able to start making that change because it starts today,” Magdaleno said.
Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, also addressed the gathering.
