By BBN Staff: Following up on a list of recommendations given to the department by their female police officers, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has pledged that the department will open a daycare center at the Raccoon Street Police Station.
“It is going to happen because we want that when our female officers come to work they have a place that they can leave their children and don’t have to worry about whether or not the child has been taken care of properly and to have the daycare center at the Police Station is the right way to go,” Williams said.
He noted that many female officers are the sole care providers of their homes and childcare is an ongoing challenge for those offices. Williams said that he witnessed a daycare center at a police station in the United States and believes the system would be a great benefit to the female officers here in Belize.
The undertaking to get the daycare center set up will be overseen by Assistant Commissioner of Police Desiree Magdaleno.
