Vegan resort in Corozal gets international recognition

Posted: Monday, March 18, 2019. 6:34 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Vegan News, an international publication published a travel writing piece this week featuring Serenity Retreats Belize, a vegan-themed resort in Corozal.

The piece, entitled “All-Vegan Resort in Belize Offers a Place to Unwind and Connect with Nature,” was published on Sunday detailing the resort’s unique features, highlighting the menu and giving an overview of the experience visitors can expect.

The international recognition opens Belize to a unique niche tourism market, as veganism continues to grow in popularity for its health benefits around the globe.

Nissrien Barakat, the owner of Serenity Retreats Belize said  that she felt drawn to Belize when she decided to leave her home in Canada. Barakat is a proud practitioner of veganism and opened the resort in 2018 with the intent of creating a one-of-a-kind experience for other vegans.

“I was drawn to Belize having never been here. There’s an energy here,” Barakat said. “I wanted to create a   place where other vegans can come and not have to worry about having animal products on their plate.”

Barakat also said that she hasn’t met a large population of vegans in Belize, however, she has noticed a rise in the demand for vegan products which are not only good as a means of healthy alternatives but also a source of job creation given that many of those products can be
locally made.
