By BBN Staff: Stew iguana, white rice and iguana eggs are a delicacy in Belize. Many Belizeans pay top price to enjoy this cuisine.
But, the Forestry Department warns that the hunting season for Iguana is closed from February to June every year since this is their breeding season.
Over the weekend, poachers were seen in Bullet Tree Falls, Cayo killing iguanas.
Bullet Tree resident Mary Cariddi says that the poachers arrived in a white van and used pellet guns to kill the iguanas.
Cariddi says that dead iguanas were also seen floating in the river.
The residents have since informed the Forestry Department to look into the matter.
