Human Development Minister clarifies status of BOOST/Food Pantry

Posted: Tuesday, March 26, 2019. 3:32 pm CST.

Aaron Humes:The $3.5 million assigned to the Food Pantry Program, according to Minister of Human Development Anthony “Boots” Martinez, covers all four districts assigned – Belize, Cayo, Stann Creek and Toledo and is listed under recurrent expenditure and not capital.

The Opposition had pointed out that no figures were listed for the Cayo, Stann Creek and Toledo districts but Martinez asserted that no one was being left out.

The program provides a basic basket of goods for about $13 every few weeks.

Martinez also praised the wide range of the BOOST conditional cash transfer program, citing that more than 400 children whose families were enrolled graduated from high school, a noted condition of the program.

Martinez also wished Belizean women a happy Women’s Month, playfully chastising Orange Walk South member Jose Mai for invoking women when he suggested that if the U.D.P. wants a quarrel they should do so with their wives or dogs.
