Belize Youth Movement says NO to the ICJ

Posted: Thursday, March 28, 2019. 12:53 pm CST.

BBN Staff: The Belize Youth Movement (BYM) today issued a statement informing their position on taking Guatemala’s claim to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for final resolution.

The BYM says that the UDP, through government-mandated “education” campaigns and through representation from its own ministers, has consistently offended, dismissed and neglected the interests, queries and uncertainties of the Belizean people.

“The nature of the “education” campaign has taken the form of a “Yes to the ICJ” campaign, and has unfairly disrespected the sincere interests of the people in seeking out the best possible resolution of the unfounded Guatemalan claim to Belizean territory,” the BYM states.

The National Executive of the Belize Youth Movement says that under the leadership of Prime Minister Dean Barrow and Foreign Minister Wilfred “Sedi” Elrington, the Government has failed to conduct a timely and comprehensive education campaign therefore, it encourages all its members to vote  “No” on referendum day.
