Prime Minister hosts press conference on ICJ referendum 

BBN Staff: Prime Minister Dean Barrow is currently hosting a press conference at the Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel in Belize City. 

Barrow began the conference by stating that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Referendum Unit has been working tirelessly to educate Belizeans about the territorial claim with Guatemala across the nation.

Barrow also referred to the most recent legal opinion done by a former judge of the ICJ Stephen Schwebel.

Schwebel was President of the ICJ from 1997 to 2000. 

“It would be open to Belize to apply to the court for provisional measures,” Barrow said, relating to continued incursions into Belizean territory. 

Barrow further said that national hero of Belize, George Price had also agreed that the ICJ would be the only option to find a final solution to the Guatemalan claim.
