Repeat offender Roger Bradley fined for theft

Aaron Humes: No stranger to the law or the court, 44-year-old Roger Bradley has a lengthy history of dishonesty. But Magistrate Michelle Trapp gave him a bit of a break by fining rather than confining him for the theft of a grinder from a Chinese businessman’s residence.

Bradley was caught on surveillance cameras breaking into the home of Kuan Chi Huang and lifting a grinder worth $160 on March 21^st.

Bradley pleaded guilty and was fined $500 due by June 27^th 2019, in default six months imprisonment. There was no evidence of his prior record on the court’s files but he does have multiple convictions for theft, burglary, and similar offenses.

 In 2017, then-Supreme Court Justice Denis Hanomansingh overturned a lower court sentence of seven years for burglary for Bradley, who had already served three years. The court found the conviction unsafe based on the lack of proper identification and prejudicial statements made at trial by a police investigator.
