Contributed by Belize Rural South voter: Last week, the House of Representatives convened to debate the 2019-2020 budget.

Ministers of Government as well as Opposition members got the opportunity to share their own presentations.

As a voter for Belize Rural South, I paid keen attention to what was going to be presented for my constituency. Minister Manuel Heredia who is also the area representative of BRS rose from his seat, gave his own presentation to support the bill that the Government was passing.

Heredia began his discourse with a self-praise note on tourism statistics but looking closer at the

General Revenue and Appropriation Bill, we must wonder exactly what is in there for us, the residents?

Standard Bearer of the People’s United Party (PUP), Andre Perez in a recorded video, called out Heredia for his lack of commitment to the overall progress of our constituency.

“Nothing that says more schools, a hospital, a poly clinic and a much needed sewer system for Caye Caulker, expanding the sewer system in Ambergris Caye and more important, no housing plans for Belize Rural South.  This can only be interpreted as a lame duck and uninspired Minister in Cabinet unable to fight and justly claim what should be allocated to Belize Rural South,” Perez stated.

Perez also explained that the Government is seeking an additional 43 million of tax money to cover  for the increase in government spending that has grown by an additional 70 million dollars.

It is appalling to note that Heredia stood and supported a bill that does not provide any new projects or development for Belize rural south.

So, what does this mean for us residents? Well, it means that we can continue to wait on empty promises from the current area representative.

In addition, standard bearer Perez committed to working arduously toward a victory and bring change in a new era of sustainable growth and prosperity for our constituency.

“I Andre Perez, pledge to you that upon being elected I will fight tirelessly to ensure that Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye area treated with dignity and respect and is justly acknowledged for the hard work and significant contributions we give to sustain the economy,” Perez committed.

Therefore, I say to you brothers and sisters of Belize Rural South, On election day vote PUP, vote Andre Perez!
